Oroville

Michael David’s son is now the same age his dad was when he stepped on a booby trap in a jungle in Vietnam. When David died on the evac helicopter, his son back in Oroville was just four years old. He hardly knew his father.

Michael David was born in Oakland and grew up in Oroville. He attended Oroville High School for three years, and transferred to Marvsyille High for his senior year, A football and baseball player in high school, David was also a member of the Oroville Chapter of (he Order of Demolay and the proud owner of a Chevy.

After high school. David attended Yuba College and the University of California at Davis. where he joined the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He also worked for the state

Department of Water Resources, and helped build the Oroville Dam.

David was drafted in September 1967 just alter he was divorced. After boot camp he attended paratrooper school and was ordered to Vietnam in February 1968 with the 101st Airborne.

Said his father after his death, “He had a feeling he wasn’t going to come back, but he gave it everything he had.”
