| Notes | Spec. 4 Allan Dean Masteller April 12, 1944 - Feb. 28, 1968 Chico Allan Masteller was just two months short of making it through the Army alive when he was killed. Born in Seattle, Masteller had lived in Chico since he was an infant. He graduated from Chico Senior High School in 1965 and later worked for United Artists Theater and Diamond National. The young man was drafted in May 1966, and after basic training assigned to the 554th Engineers’ Battalion. His unit was sent to Vietnam in April 1967. In late February 1968, when he was about a month short of coming home, Masteller’s camp at Cu Chi was attacked by rockets and mortars. He was seriously wounded and died at the base hospital three hours later. Chico News & Review, May 26, 1988
